Not guilty!  Those are the two most precious words a criminal defense attorney can hear.  Today, I heard it four times as the court clerk read the verdicts in David Mota’s first degree murder trial.  What started out as a lane change that seemed to have enough clearance ended up being a young, San Manuel resident’s fear for his safety in the face of an irate, obscenity-spewing motorist who seemed to be reaching for something.  Arizona’s stand your ground law prevailed as twelve jurors determined that the State failed to prove David did not act in self-defense.  Our justice system worked today and a young, innocent man was exonerated.
